LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office is holding its first ever National Night Out event Tuesday at the fairgrounds.
National Night Out was introduced in 1984 to celebrate community and law enforcement partnerships. The first National Night Out involved approximately 3 million people in communities across the U.S. and Canada. Today more than 38 million neighbors in 16,000 communities across the nation take part in National Night Out. The event is held the first Tuesday in August.
The Allen County Sheriff’s Office will hold its event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the Roschman Park shelter house area of the Allen County Fairgrounds. Every division and special unit of the sheriff’s office will be on hand to interact with visitors and to demonstrate their abilities.
“We want the citizens of Allen County to come out and see what we have to offer at the Sheriff’s office,” said Sheriff Matt Treglia.
The Sheriff’s office is providing plenty of fun and activities for the entire community.
“We have bounce houses [and] free food and water. We’re going to have face painting for the kids, there’s going to be an obstacle course for the kids that our SWAT team is going to put on for kids that want to do it, probably diving in the pond with our dive team, interacting with the robots with our bomb team and then talking to our detectives and our undercover drug agents, coming up and petting the horses and hanging out with the mounted posse and the motorcycles. They will see all the K9s and all the vehicles that we currently have and use and the different things we use for the different specialty teams,” said Treglia.
Treglia is hoping to inform the citizens of Allen County what his department has as a whole to help those in need.
“We want the citizens of Allen County to see what we have, to see what we have to offer for them in case they would need anything of that nature,” said Treglia.
