Escaped Van Wert inmate caught

VAN WERT — An inmate at the Van Wert Correctional Facility had a brief fling with freedom Friday after escaping.

According to a news release from Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach, Robert K. Seibert, 31, of Van Wert was part of a work crew that was taking the trash out of the Van Wert Correctional Facility to a dumpster. As the work crew was escorted back into the facility, Seibert fled on foot. A citizen who witnessed what happened assisted the corrections officer in locating Seibert, who was found a short distance away, in the 100 block of East First Street.

Seibert is facing a charge of escape. He had been serving a sentence for a domestic violence charge and was scheduled to be released in late January.
