Four injured in Saturday crash in Elida

ELIDA — The Lima Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a three-vehicle accident at 3:48 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Sunnydale Street and Eastown Road.

Rebecca L. Keller, 78, of Elida was driving a 2008 Mercury Sable northbound on Eastown Road and attempted to turn left onto Sunnydale Street. Behind Keller waiting at the intersection was a 2005 Mini Cooper driven by Jennifer Hiester, 46, of Ada. Erica L. Birchmeier, 27, of Ottawa, was driving a 2016 Chevrolet Silverado northbound on Eastown Road when she rear-ended the Mini Cooper, forcing it into the Sable. The Mini Cooper then came to rest in a cornfield off the right side of the roadway.

Hiester and her passenger, Olivia Hiester, 17, had to be extracted from the vehicle by American Township firefighters. Both were taken to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries. Birchmeier and her passenger, Andrew C. Birkmeier, 30, were also transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s with non-life threatening injuries. Keller had a minor injury and was treated and released at the scene.

Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
