WAYNESFIELD — Authorities in Auglaize County on Thursday arrested the husband of a woman found dead in her home last year, Sheriff Al Solomon announced Friday.
Brent Allen Williams, 45, faces two counts of murder, unclassified felonies, and one count of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony, in the death of his wife, 35-year-old Erin Mulcahy, at her home at 200 Karen St., Waynesfield, on July 5, 2017.
According to investigator notes contained in the Auglaize County Coroner’s report, Williams was living at a different address, 25286 Allen Union Wayne Road, at the time of her death.
The landlord of the apartments where Mulcahy was living found the woman nude, lying on her right side in a running shower. Officers from the Waynesfield Police Department responded to the scene, and later, deputies from the Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office joined the investigation.
According to the investigator’s narrative, the bathroom floor and rug in Mulcahy’s apartment bathroom were both wet. Auglaize County Coroner Thomas Freytag reported she had died on July 5 from strangulation and had been lying in the shower for three days before discovery.
Williams is being held at the Auglaize County Correctional Center with $500,000 bond. According to the sheriff’s office news release, Williams is facing murder charges under two different Ohio Revised Code murder statutes; one with wording pertaining to murder of an individual or the unlawful termination of pregnancy and the other without the wording.
The coroner’s report doesn’t mention Mulcahy being pregnant at the time of her strangulation.
Both Mulcahy and Williams were from the Lima area. They married April 14, 2016, according to Mulcahy’s obituary. Mulcahy graduated from Elida High School in 2000, where she was active in athletics.
