OTTAWA — An Oakwood woman died of injuries suffered in a two-car traffic crash Sunday afternoon in Putnam County.

Cindy Adams, 58, was air-flighted to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s following the accident, which occurred at approximately 3:55 p.m. on Road E at the intersection of Road 22.

According to a statement from the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Adams was operating her 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix eastbound on county Road E and failed to observe a stop sign at county Road 22. As her car entered the intersection, Adams was struck by a 2012 Chrysler Town and County driven by Mikayla Mayer, of Lexington, Ky., which was southbound on Road 22.

Adams was transported by air ambulance to the Lima hospital, where she succumbed as a result of her injuries.

Mayes and her two passengers, Michelle Mayes, 46, and McKenzy Mayes, 13, were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Adams was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and injuries could have been minimized if the seat belt had been in use, according to a patrol spokesman.

The patrol was assisted on scene by the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Putnam County Fire and EMS, Continental Fire and EMS, Mercy Health Life Flight and R & O Towing.
