SPRINGFIELD — Allen Economic Development Group President/CEO Jeff Sprague traveled to Springfield Monday to understand what economic development initiatives the “Champion City” is undertaking to reverse decades of economic shrinking.
The meeting was organized by the Greater Ohio Policy Center, a state think tank aiding what they call “reinvention cities” in developing potential state policy that could reverse decades of economic shrinking that irks many former manufacturing powerhouses like Lima.
Sprague said Springfield is similar to Lima in that both are experiencing some of the same barriers and developing congruent initiatives. For example, both Springfield and Lima are focusing on downtown development and creating a skilled workforce.
The meeting also helped Sprague network with other economic development officials and city leaders throughout the state of Ohio who also attended the Springfield conference.
Sprague said one of his primary concerns is attracting housing developers into Lima by improving their returns on investment.
“How do you bring investors in? Because markets like ours are entirely different than the Columbuses of the world,” Sprague said.
