LIMA — The victim of a homicide Monday morning just south of Lima has been identified as 65-year-old Van Youngblood.

His 31-year-old son has been charged with murder in connection with his father’s death.

According to a statement released Tuesday afternoon by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Timothy Youngblood, 311 E. 14th St., Lima, is currently being held at the Allen County jail on a preliminary charge of murder.

Allen County Sheriff Matt Treglia on Monday afternoon said the county dispatch center received a 911 emergency call at approximately 11:06 a.m. Monday about someone who had been severely injured. It was later learned the call was made by Wilma Youngblood, the victim’s wife.

Deputies, along with personnel from the Perry Township EMS, responded to a home at 311 E. 14th Street. A male — subsequently identified as the elder Youngblood — was pronounced dead at the scene.

The exact cause of death is still being investigated, but the sheriff’s statement on Tuesday said the victim suffered multiple stab wounds from a sharp object to his upper torso and neck area.

The motive behind the attack is still being investigated, the sheriff said.

The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation was called in, at Treglia’s request, to assist with the investigation and to aid in crime scene processing.
