LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office will host its first National Night Out event from 5:30 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 7 at the Roschman Park shelter house area, at the Allen County Fairgrounds.
Each division and special unit of the sheriff’s office will be on hand to interact with visitors and to demonstrate its unique abilities and daily functions. Units on display will include patrol units from the sheriff’s office and Perry Township Police Department, the sheriff’s office mounted posse (including horses and motorcycles), the detective bureau and crime task force, the sheriff’s office SWAT, Dive, K9 and bomb teams, the Perry Township Fire Department and Emergency Medical Services, the sheriff’s office corrections and communications divisions and the Allen County Emergency Management Agency.
Free food and games will be available, along with bounce houses and face-painting for youngsters.
The National Night Out Event is a free family friendly community safety event held annually on the first Tuesday of August.
A fundraiser 5-K race to benefit the Allen County D.A.R.E. program will be held at 7 p.m. during the National Night Out event. The 5K is being jointly hosted by the sheriff’s office and Anytime Fitness of Lima.
The race will start and end at the event area. Registration forms and 5K informational flyers are available at www.acso-oh.us. Completed registration forms and payment should be returned to Anytime Fitness; 2119 Elida Road; Lima, Ohio 45805. Registration is $20 for participants 18 and older and $10 for anyone 18 years of age and younger.
Checks should be made payable to Allen County D.A.R.E. Prizes for overall first-, second- and third-place winners. All participants ages 12 and younger who complete the race will receive prizes.
