LIMA — Bath Township firefighters responded to a two-alarm fire at 3:58 a.m. Tuesday at Shoreline Apartments, 2250-2280 E. Elm St., Lima.
Firefighters arrived on scene at 4:04 a.m. to discover the second floor of the middle apartment was on fire but had not self-vented. Bath firefighters requested a tanker from Perry Township Fire Department and a medic from the Lima Fire Department shortly after arriving on scene.
No injuries were reported.
The fire was contained to the second-floor apartment and the common attic shared by three apartments. A firefighter had to forcibly enter a vacant adjacent apartment, damaging the front door in the process. The tenant in the other adjacent apartment had vacated the area, and that apartment didn’t sustain any damage. Smoke and fire caused heavy damage to the second floor.
According to the Allen County Auditor’s website, Shoreline Apartments is owned by Brad and Wanda Augsburger and valued at $550,500. The total loss is estimated to be $30,000 in property and content damage. Working smoke detectors were not found in any of the affected apartments.
According to a press release from Bath Township Fire Department, the tenant in the apartment where the fire began could not be located. Multiple different messages were left for him by several different individuals and agencies.
Bath Township Fire Department was assisted on scene by Perry Township Fire Department and Lima Fire Department. The fire fighters with Bath Township were back on duty at 6:15 a.m.
The fire is under investigation.
