VAN WERT — An autopsy is pending for an infant who died in the 800 block of Leeson Avenue in Van Wert on Thursday.

Detective Joe Motycka of the Van Wert Police Department said Thursday that police are investigating the suspicious death of an infant but added that no further details are currently being released as the investigation continues.

The name of the infant has not been made public, and a dispatcher at the Van Wert Police Department on Friday afternoon said no update was being made available at the current time and that investigators were not available to discuss the incident.

According to a press release issued Thursday evening by the Van Wert Police Department, officers were dispatched to the residence at 830 Leeson Ave. around mid-afternoon Thursday in reference to the suspicious death.

The house is listed as being owned by Larry D. and Nancy Jill Hoverman on the Van Wert County Auditor’s website.

Neighbors said Jill Hoverman ran a babysitting business out of her home, but it’s not clear whether the child who died was being cared for by Hoverman at the time of death.
