LIMA — A diagnosis of cancer, treatment and birthday present ended with a 2018 Dodge Charger Skat Pack for Lima’s Melissa Waller.
Waller went through the horrid news of having breast cancer. She found out on Nov. 13 that she had breast cancer.
“Luckily it was from my normal mammogram, and it was just the size of a pencil eraser head,” Waller said.
She went through a double lumpectomy the Monday after Thanksgiving and then endured 30 sessions of radiation. The doctors also discovered that she was extremely anemic, so she had to endure iron transfusions. Because she is adopted, she had no idea what her family history was, so she was also tested for the cancer gene.
On Jan. 12, she received the good news that she did not have the cancer gene, and that’s the day she got the car.
“Plus my birthday is Jan. 14, so that was part of the reason too,” said Waller. “It was a great birthday! (Her husband) John spoils me.”
This is a 2018 Dodge Charger Skat Pack.
“It has a 392 Hemi engine in it. I had a 2013 Dodge Challenger, and I loved that car, but three winters and rain, it didn’t go anywhere because it was a stick shift; it was a six speed. And I liked to drive it. This has the same engine as my Challenger did. It’s an automatic, but it has eight gears and the manual paddles if I want to go into manual. The color is Octane Red. When you see it in the sun, it has the flakes and goes POW,” Waller said.
Waller encourages everyone to have their annual checkups.
“Have the annual tests. Are they fun? No, but they can save your life. If I would have decided to skip it, who knows. It took 200 days for that cancer tumor to form; I looked it up. It hadn’t spread to any other parts of my body, and it was stage zero. Even if you know your family history, go get checked,” Waller said.
