Wapakoneta man dies in ATV accident

SPENCERVILLE — Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating an ATV accident which resulted in the death of a Wapakoneta man early Sunday near Spencerville.

At approximately 1:43 a.m., Dillon W. Place, 28, of Wapakoneta was riding a 1999 Honda 400 EX four wheeler Southbound on Sunderland Road near Agerter Road in Amanda Township when he lost control of the vehicle. Place’s vehicle collided with a dirt bike being driven by Codie B. Rostorfar, 22, of Buckland, after leaving the roadway, striking two mailboxes, a culvert and throwing Place off.

Place was transported to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s from the scene by Spencerville EMS. He was pronounced dead by Allen County Coroner Investigator Jamie Sizemore at the hospital.

Rostorfer and Danielle J. Sudman of St. Marys, a passenger on the ATV, were injured during the accident but both fled the scene. They were found hours later and transported to Joint Township District Memorial Hospital in St. Marys by Rostorfer’s parents.

Alcohol is believed to have been a factor in the accident. None of the three individuals involved are believed to have been wearing helmets.
