Joint drug investigation lands eight in jail


LIMA — Eight people were indicted in federal court for their roles in a conspiracy to sell cocaine and crack cocaine in and around Lima.

Those arrested include Don Burns, 44; Joseph Downton, 29; Early Hall, 37; DeJuan James, 31; Michael Jones, 40; DeJuan Keys, 29; Larry Nathan, 53 and Chivas Shurelds, 29 all of Lima. These men face an 11-count federal indictment.

The cocaine was purchased from Demos Watkins, who pleaded guilty to drug charges in federal court earlier this year. Watkins used a residence on North McDonel Street to store the drugs he sold to the defendants. Watkins pleaded guilty to drug charges in federal court earlier this year and is awaiting sentencing.

Participating agencies involved in the colloborative effort include the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Lima Police Department, Van Wert County Sheriff’s Office, Ohio State Highway Patrol, Ohio National Guard Counter Drug Task Force and the Delphos Police Department.
