One dies after vehicle crashes into lake in Auglaize County


WAPAKONETA — One person died Tuesday after a vehicle went into a lake in Auglaize County.

The Wapakoneta post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating the fatal accident, which occurred at 5 p.m. at Arrowhead Lake Resort, 14296 Cemetery Road, Wapakoneta.

According to a press release, patrol officers and members of the Wapakoneta Fire Department and Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office were unable to extract the driver from the submerged vehicle because the water was too deep at 12 to 14 feet.

The vehicle had to be pulled from the water by Kinstle’s Towing, Wapakoneta.

The name of the driver is being withheld until next of kin can be notified. According to the release, the driver was using a safety belt at the time of the accident and alcohol is not suspected to be a factor. Witnesses reported the driver was “slumped over and unresponsive” at the time of the accident.

The accident is under investigation.
