LIMA — Peter Fike, 17, and a junior at Lima Senior High School hopes to attend the University of Southern California to study film and video design.
“In 6th grade, I went to a film boot camp called Student Integrated Arts Filmmaker Boot Camp, run by Nick Kellis through Heartland Image Foundation. I went to the boot camp and one of the things we went over was different kinds of roles on a film set. We went over the cinematographer/director of photography role and instantly everything about it clicked for me,” said Fike.
“I want to get involved in the big Hollywood productions but I also want to give back to Nick and what he does here in Lima and help produce stuff here in Lima because Lima, Ohio and the whole state have a lot to offer and I think I should do what I can to help make sure that kids in Ohio and other states are getting the opportunities I did,” said Fike.
Fike recently placed among the top 10 in the nation in the Business Professionals of America individual Multimedia Promotion competition.
“The assignment was to create a video about a local hero that was like 3 to 4 minutes long, and so I sat down and started brainstorming ideas. I came up with Benjamin Faurot … because I knew some about him. I sat down and did the research, I went over to the Allen County Museum and worked with people in the archives department there and got a bunch of information and put together a whole video about Benjamin Faurot and what he did for our community over a hundred years ago and how that affected our community going forward,” said Fike.
Fike also attended the National Leadership Conference in Dallas, Texas last month.
Fike is also a Boy Scout [Troop 777] and is working on his Eagle Scout project. He’s also on the Mars Rover team at Lima Senior, a member of the band, men’s chorus, show choir and the cross country team.
He was accepted into the National Honor Society and maintains a 3.9 Grade Point Average.
