LIMA – An Illinois man died Sunday night when his motorcycle left the roadway Sunday on Eastown Road in American Township.
According to a statement from the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Parker Oldenettel, 21, of South Jacksonville, Illinois, was operating his Kawasaki ZX-6R motorcycle southbound on Eastown Road at approximately 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Police say he lost control of the motorcycle, striking a curb and a mail box. Oldenettel continued across a yard, where the motorcycle struck a fire hydrant. He was thrown from the motorcycle and came to rest a short distance later.
Oldenettel was pronounced dead at the scene by Allen County Assistant Coroner Jamie Sizemore.
The Lima post was assisted by American Township Fire and EMS, Army’s Towing and Recovery and local REACT members.
Alcohol is not believed to be a factor, the patrol statement said. The crash remains under investigation.
