CONVERSE — Clair Crider, of Converse, owns this 1966 Chevy Corvette. He has owned it since 1969, but it has been in storage since 1990. Crider recently pulled it out of storage to get it up and running again.
He purchased the car in Lima in 1969. The original owner was Dr. Buchanan, a local dentist. The engine was blown and the family had another engine installed. That engine was not an original to a 1966 Corvette, however. Despite that flaw, Crider took second place at Nationals in Atlanta, Georgia in 1975.
In 1990, Crider stored the car away and didn’t look at it again until recently. He decided now was the time to get the car out of storage. The motor had developed a leak, so he set about finding a new motor, and one that would have matching numbers to the 1966 era. Crider located a motor in New York state and had it shipped and installed in his beauty.
“So now the correct engine is in and all numbers are matching,” said Crider.
The Corvette is painted white with candy apple blue, which is a customized paint job.
“It’s my baby, one of the family,” said Crider.
