Fire destroys outbuilding near Continental


CONTINENTAL —The Continental Fire Department is looking into the cause of a blaze Saturday morning.

According to a news release from the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, their office received a 9-1-1 call at 1:40 a.m., to a structure on fire in the area of Road 24 and Road D in Monroe Township, which is northwest of Continental.

They found an outbuilding on fire at 4081 Road 24.

The shop, belonging to James Gutman, was fully engulfed as fire department personnel arrived on the scene.

The building was near the residence, which also suffered minor damage. A garage nearby also suffered extensive damage.

The building where the fire originated was a total loss. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.

Continental received help from the Oakwood Fire Department and Kalida Fire Department. Also assisting were Auglaize Fire Department, Ottoville Fire Department, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, Continental and Putnam County EMS, AEP, and the Putnam County Chapter of the American Red Cross.

The Ohio State Fire Marshal’s office was contacted to further investigate the cause of the fire.
