LIMA — Two robbers remain at large after stealing approximately $1,000 from Family Dollar, 1127 W. Robb Ave. Lima, late Monday.

According to a statement from the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, one white male and one black male entered the business at approximately 9:50 p.m. and demanded money from store employees. The individuals, who were not brandishing weapons, went behind the counter and took approximately $1,000 from an open safe and the cash registers before fleeing on foot.

No store employees were injured during the incident, although one employee was physically forced to the floor by one of the subjects, according to the report. The white male is approximately 6 feet tall and the black male is described as approximately 5-foot-7 to 5-foot-10, police said. Both subjects were wearing all black clothing and masks.

Cruisers collide

While responding to the robbery incident, two Allen County deputies were traveling westbound in the 800 block of Robb Avenue when their cruisers collided. The leading deputy was traveling in the right-hand lane and attempted to make a sudden U-turn to establish a wider perimeter around the crime scene, according to the report. At that time the trailing deputy, who was traveling in the left-hand lane, struck the driver’s side of the turning unit. Both vehicles were towed from the scene and both were expected to be total losses.

Both deputies were transported to Mercy Health with non-life threatening injuries. The deputy in the trailing unit was treated and released and the deputy who attempted to make the U-turn was admitted for further observation.

The crash is still under investigation.
