LIMA — Two people are dead after a car crashed into a Pepsi truck Wednesday at the Pony Keg, 1201 Shawnee Road.

According to the Shawnee Township Police Department, around 1:13 p.m., officers were dispatched to the location.

Upon arrival officers learned the injuries were severe and requested assistance of an accident reconstructionist from the Ohio State Highway Patrol.

Investigators say a 2015 Hyundai Sonata was eastbound on state Route 117, drove through the intersection of Shawnee Road against a red light and jumped the curb in front of the Pony Keg. The car then struck a 2003 Freightliner Pepsi delivery truck parked at the business. The truck was then pushed into a 2018 Ford Fusion also parked in front of the business.

The Hyundai was being operated by Phyllis Goodson, 70, of Lima. She was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center by the Lima Fire Department with serious injuries. A front seat passenger Alexa K. Tippie, 45, of St. Marys was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center by the Lima Fire Dept. She was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. A rear seat passenger also identified as Alexa K. Tippie, age 67, of St. Marys was transported to St. Rita’s Medical Center by Shawnee Township Fire Department. She died shortly after arrival at the hospital. Both Alexas are mother and daughter, and Phyllis is the sister and aunt to the passengers.

The Hyundai was totaled, the truck had to be towed from the scene and the Ford had minor damage. There were no other injuries. This accident remains under investigation with no charges at this time. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor at this time.
