Indiana man enters diversion program for having loaded weapon in vehicle

LIMA — A 21-year-old Indiana man has been approved to participate in the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Diversion Program after pleading guilty to a fourth-degree felony charge of the improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle.

Dathan Terry of Fort Wayne entered the plea in Allen County Common Pleas Court earlier this week, admitting that on or about April 1 he had a loaded firearm in a vehicle that was accessible by either the driver or a passenger.

Terry’s guilty plea was a prerequisite for acceptance into the prosecutor’s diversion program. While Terry faces a maximum sentence of 18 months in prison, his successful completion of the diversion program will remove the charge from his record.

Terry will pay $75 per month to participate in the diversion program and will perform 100 hours of community service.
