LIMA — Alter Ego Comics on 230 N. Main St. will be celebrating Superman’s 80th anniversary on Wednesday by debuting Action Comics No. 1000 at 10 a.m.
The special anniversary comic book contains all news stories from some of the best comic book creators, according to Marc Bowker, owner of Alter Ego. The book also features the story of The Man of Steel.
“The one-thousandth issue of ACTION COMICS is an incredible milestone in pop culture and a testament to the vision of Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster,” according to DC Comics, co-publisher Dan DiDio in a news release. “Without this book, along with Siegel and Shuster’s fertile imaginations and boundless creativity, the superhero’s place in literature may have been wildly different, if not altogether nonexistent.”
On Wednesday customers will also have the opportunity to view the Superman No. 2, which was published in 1939.
“It’s incredibly rare to find a comic book that’s nearly 80 years old in good condition because comics were never meant to last,” said Bowker. “This copy of Superman No. 2 would be the highlight of any Superman fan’s collection.”
