FORT JENNINGS — The Jennings Memorial Association is holding an auction at 10 a.m. Saturday at 300 Water St. to benefit the first phase of Soldiers Square park.
Currently a house sits on the lot next to Memorial Hall. The house will be demolished and a parking lot will be created, as well as a sitting area to commemorate fallen soldiers. The completion goal for phase one is by Fort Fest 2018.
“We have asked community members to donate things for the auction. Dave and Karen Young, of Fort Jennings, donated a 1959 Buick Electra. They said they don’t drive it near enough and thought about selling it. When they heard of the auction they decided to donate it to the community,” said Jen Nichols. “We have people coming from Cleveland and Detroit for the car.”
Other items donated by the community include a Glastron Carlson boat with Johnson motor, stainless steel gas grill, Kenmore upright freezer, a range and a commercial countertop food warmer, just to name a few. In addition, the doors, windows, light fixtures, ceiling fans and cabinets of the home set to be razed will be auctioned.
“T-shirts will be available for purchase from Jennings Depot. The Depot and Tim’s Backyard BBQ will have food for sale during the auction,” said Nichols.
Auctioneers include Michael Miller from Auctions on 309 and Elaine Wehri. Apprentices include Linnea Stephens and Allan Pohlman. Cash or checks will be accepted.
Photos of the items up for auction can be found on the Auctions on 309 Facebook page.
