LIMA — The Council for the Arts of Greater Lima has started planning for a busy summer season highlighting local acts and organizing its annual Concerts in the Park Series.

The first series begins this April through collaboration between Executive Director Bart Mills and Omar Zehery, producer with Legacy Sounds. The two are organizing multiple cultural local showcases highlighting regional artists to be held every third Thursday of the month.

“We’re excited about showcasing this area,” Zehery said. “There’s a real creative energy here.”

April’s event is to be held at 7 p.m. April 19 at the Paint & Sip, 215 W. Market St., and will feature local painters. The May event will be a spoken word night at Fat Cat Diner on Main Street.

Mills said he hopes to use the events to eventually create a series of videos and other marketing materials to show off Lima’s cultural footprint.

“We want people in the world to know what we’re doing,” Mills said.

Zehery has been involved in Lima’s music scene and has been working with a number of local artists downtown under the banner of “Rustgaze” and recently helped organize a concert at the Veterans Memorial Civic & Convention Center this past fall.

As for Concerts in the Park, the 2018 Schedule begins at 7 p.m. June 24 at Faurot Park and runs each Sunday until Aug. 5. The full 2018 lineup can be found at limaartscouncil.com.
