Van Wert man arrested on drug charges after traffic stop

VAN WERT — A Van Wert man was arrested for felony drug possession Saturday.

According to a news release from the Van Wert County sheriff’s office, Christopher M. Caldwell, 29, was arrested for OVI, a misdemeanor of the first degree, and aggravated possession of drugs, a felony of the third degree, after the vehicle he was driving was pulled over in Hoaglin Township for multiple traffic violations.

A passenger in the vehicle was not charged and was released.

A sheriff dog alerted for narcotics during the stop, and officers found an amount of suspected methamphetamine and other drugs in addition to items used in the sale of such.

Caldwell is in Van Wert County Correctional Facility and awaiting arraignment in Van Wert Municipal Court.

The incident is under investigation.
