LIMA — The Allen County commissioners are holding a pair of public meetings to talk about a proposed sales tax increase to fund capital improvements.

The first public meeting is 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13, in the multi-purpose room of Senior Citizens Services, 3400 W. Elm St., Lima.

A second meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 21, in the Youth Building of the Allen County Fairgrounds, 2750 Harding Highway, Lima.

The commissioners have placed a 0.2 percent sales tax increase levy on the May 8 primary election ballot. The current Allen County sales tax is 6.75 percent. The levy would increase it to 6.95 percent if approved by voters.

The board has agreed to allocate up to $500,000 annually to be used by the county engineer’s office to fix aging infrastructure if the levy is approved.
