OTTAWA — Derek Stemen, executive director for the American Red Cross of West Central Ohio, attended the signing of a proclamation by Mayor Dean Meyer Friday declaring March as American Red Cross Month.
The west Central Ohio Chapter of the American Red Cross has served the Ottawa area by assisting 152 families affected by disasters in 2018. The Red Cross handles case services for military members and their families through the Services to the Armed Services Program. The area Red Cross has the potential to help over 70,000 people by distributing 23,402 units of blood collected from donors. They have also made 418 area homes safer by installing 1,002 smoke detectors in homes.
