Huffman introduces Notary Public Modernization Act

COLUMBUS — State Sen. Matt Huffman (R-Lima) and Steve Wilson (R-Maineville) recently introduced the Notary Public Modernization Act which will update Ohio’s notary public system by allowing documents to be notarized online through live audio-video communication.

The bill also provides for certain consumer protections to ensure authenticity of electronic signatures and online notarial acts.

Under the bill, all applications and fees would now be sent to the Secretary of State’s office for processing. Applicants would also be required to submit a background check, participate in approved training and pass an assessment.
