Man dies from gunshot wounds in Newark

Columbus Dispatch

NEWARK — A 48-year-old man was shot to death at a home in Newark overnight, and police are calling it a homicide.

Newark Police said they responded to a call of gunshots at a home in the first block of Cherry Street just before 3 a.m. Saturday. They responded and found that 48-year-old David Barcus had been shot. He was taken to Licking Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said in a release.

Police said they have surveillance-camera footage from the area and have identified a suspect vehicle. The footage also shows four subjects either walking or running from the scene.

No arrests have been made. Police said not all of those four people caught on camera are believed to have been directly involved in the shooting so they are encouraging anyone with information to come forward quickly.
