Fire destroys maintenance barn in Marion Township

MARION TOWNSHIP — Fire destroyed a maintenance building on Grubb Road west of Lima Tuesday evening. The blaze kept firefighters from six area departments busy for four hours.

According to Battalion Chief Joel Will of the American Township Fire Department, a passerby noticed flames coming from the structure at 5230 N. Grubb Road and called the fire department at 8:30 p.m. Upon their arrival, firefighters found the structure, owned by Brennco Farms, to be fully engulfed in flames.

Firefighters from Delphos, Spencerville, Fort Jennings, Cairo and Shawnee provided mutual aid to American Township in battling the blaze. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, Will said. The structure was deemed to be a total loss.

Asked to assess the amount of damage cause by the blaze, Will said, “we’re talking hundreds of thousands of dollars.”
