LIMA — Two people were injured during an apartment fire Tuesday afternoon in Lima.
The American Township Fire Department responded to a fire at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at 2620 W. Market St., a part of Mount Vernon Apartments, according to Battalion Chief Brian Helmig.
“We had smoke showing from an entrance door, indicating we had an apartment fire,” he said.
After crews entered the building, heavy smoke and fire was showing from apartment 114, Helmig said. One firefighter and an occupant both sustained minor injuries and American Township EMS transported them to Mercy Health-St. Rita’s.
The apartment on fire was declared a total loss by the fire department, Helmig said. Several first floor apartments and first floor hall sustained smoke and water damage. Some second floor apartments also sustained smoke damage.
The buildings total loss was estimated at $250,000, $50,000 of that being damage to contents. According to the Allen County Auditor’s website, the total value of the entire Mt. Vernon apartment complex is $2.1 million.
The firefighters who were on scene was back in service at 6:30 p.m.
