WAPAKONETA — Auglaize County Sheriff Al Solomon confirmed on Wednesday that a Wapakoneta man is currently incarcerated in the Auglaize County Jail awaiting extradition to Kentucky, where he is wanted on a variety of sex-related charges.

Nathaniel Gillette, 45, is wanted by officials in Frankfort, Kentucky, where he will face charges of allegedly trying to have sex with children. The charges reportedly involve the unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sex.

According to the website www.kentucky,gov, Kentucky Attorney General Andy Beshear and his Department of Criminal Investigations Cyber Crimes Unit announced last week that Gillette had been arrested for allegedly seeking sex with a minor.

A Franklin County, Kentucky grand jury in December returned a six-count indictment against Gillette for unlawful use of electronic means to induce a minor to engage in sex, Class D felonies, according to the website.

The Wapakoneta Police Department assisted Kentucky authorities by making the arrest of Gillette on Jan 4. Solomon said he will remain in the Auglaize County Jail until extradition arrangements are completed.

An investigation surrounding Gillette’s online activity begin when investigators obtained information that he was seeking sex with young children online.

The Franklin County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office is handling the prosecution of the case.

“My office continues to work hard to take those who are looking to exploit our children off the streets,” Beshear said. “I appreciate the hard work of our cyber investigators and the Wapakoneta Police Department for working to keep our children safe.”
