AEP program helps customers with winter utility assistance

LIMA — American Electric Power customers who are in need of utility assistance are encouraged to now apply for the Neighbor to Neighbor program.

Through the program eligible customers will receive a grant applied to their account which will help them maintain service or get it restored.

Applications with be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until April 30, while funds last. Since the the pilot of the program in 2009, it has assisted more than 50,000 Ohio families with more than $12.4 million in grants.

“For many Ohio families, heating their homes during this time can also pose a difficult financial burden. Being a good community partner and neighbor is who we are and what we do, and we are committed to giving our neighbors, who may struggle to make ends meet, a helping hand to ensure their electric service continues,” stated Director of Customer Experience and Communications for AEP Ohio Katie Grayem in a news release.
