Woman found dead in Near East Side home marks city’s 140th homicide

COLUMBUS — Columbus police say a woman who was found dead inside a Near East Side home on Christmas Day is the city’s 140th homicide of 2017.

Police have identified the woman as 57-year-old Rose Douthitt.

Police say Douthitt was found lifeless inside a residence in the 1200 block of Sigsbee Avenue shortly at 4:46 p.m. Monday. She was pronounced dead a few minutes later by medics.

Police say there were signs several signs of trauma to the victim’s body but didn’t give details. The Franklin County Coroner’s Office on Tuesday morning confirmed the injuries were consistent with her being murdered.

Police have no suspect at this time or motives.
