LIMA — Jessica has gone through tough life battles in the past couple of months. Her mom died in October from cancer and she lost her job in Florida. Her mom was her only source of extra support. To top it off, Christmas is just weeks away and she wants her 7-year-old son and 1-year-old son to have something under the tree.

Jessica and was traveling back and forth visiting with her mother who had cancer. In October, Jessica’s mom was very ill. Jessica came up from Florida and her employer told her she would not be coming back to a job.

“I was just shy of having enough time in to qualify for the Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA),” said Jessica. “Now, that business has closed completely due to the hurricane that went through the area.”

While enjoying her mom’s last moments on earth, Jessica made the decision to move her family back to Ohio near other family members.

“I had no one in Florida,” said Jessica.

Her household items are still, however, in storage in Florida.

“I would love to get my things up here from Florida, but that takes money,” said Jessica.

Jessica is living temporarily with her aunt while looking for a job as a state tested nursing assistant (STNA). She has had numerous interviews and hopes to be employed shortly.

“I love being in the medical field,” said Jessica.

While grateful for her aunt’s hospitality, she wants to provide a home for her boys and a Christmas that they will remember.

Collin, 7, loves Legos and could use socks. He wears a size 5 1/2 in shoes. He could also use some clothing, wearing a size 14-16.

Jake, 1, would love anything that lights up or makes noise. He wears a size 6 in infant shoes and could use some socks. He wears clothing size 18 to 24 months.

Jessica is desperate to get her household items back to Ohio from Florida, and would appreciate any help to make that a reality.
