WOOSTER — A young Amish girl was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday as she tried to cross a road to greet her father, reports say.
According to the Associated Press, the State Highway Patrol identified the girl as 3-year-old Dora Miller.
The girl was struck by an SUV at about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday on a rural road in East Union Township in Wayne County. Troopers say the SUV was traveling about 55 mph, the legal speed limit on the road.
Dora reportedly was standing with a group of children on the side of the road when her father was dropped off, the AP reports.
She was flown by helicopter to Akron Children’s Hospital but died of her injuries, the Daily Record reports.
Troopers tell the Daily Record that drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the incident, which remains under investigation.
