More than 22K deer checked on first day of gun hunting season

LIMA — Monday marked the opening of deer-gun hunting season in Ohio, with hunters checking more than 22,300 white-tailed deer on the season’s first day, according to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

Local numbers for checked deer included 93 in Allen County, 94 in Auglaize County, 139 in Hardin County, 94 in Putnam County and 50 in Van Wert County.
