Car catches fire at Community Motors


LIMA — Lima firefighters were called out at shortly after 9 a.m. Monday to a car fire in the lot of Community Motors, 502 W. North St. The car lot is owned by Jack Nichols.

According to Capt. Brian Stewart with Lima Fire Department, the owner of the car lot had come out to to start a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville, 4 door about 20 minutes earlier. At that time he heard a pop, and the car engine started smoking. The owner called Lima Fire Department to extinguish the fire.

“The car was far enough away from other vehicles that it didn’t cause any other damage,” Stewart said.

Damage was apparent on the hood of the vehicle, but the interior was fine.

According to Kelley Blue Book, the value of the vehicle was between $1,000 and $2,000 with a fair purchase price of about $1,600.

The Fire Department was on the scene until 9:41 a.m.
