KENTON — The 153rd Hardin County Fair begins Tuesday and runs through Sept. 10 at the fairgrounds located at 14134 county Road 140. Daily gate admission is $8 or a season pass for $20, which gets one adult and all school-age children in for the week. Ride wristbands are $12 per day, with at least 15 rides on the grounds.

The Hardin County Fair saw attendance at 54,000 last year.

“We are a good-sized medium fair. We have three buildings that have vendors in them. A lot of other fairs that you go to only have one building that has vendors. We’re full with vendors and renting to outside space now,” said Judi Cronley, fair secretary.

The fair consistently has a large youth participation.

“Yes, we have a really good showing for junior fair livestock here. Real good,” Cronley said.

While fairgoers amble through the fairgrounds, they will have some pretty landscaping, a new building and a remodeled building to look at this year.

“We have different areas this year that different groups sponsored to put out flowers and maintain them throughout the summer. We have our new small livestock show arena this year. That was built in conjunction with the Ohio Department of Agriculture grant money. So that is our big addition this year with that. Our whole merchant’s building has new electric in it, new walls were built and it’s been freshly painted so it looks really nice. We used some of the grant money for that too,” Cronley said.

Also new for the fair is a Catch and Release fishing derby for kids. That is open every day and at any time for any child.

“It’s open to kids of all ages actually,” Cronley said.

The Great Bear Show will be at the fair doing three shows a day every day during the week.

“Bear Hollow Woodcarver is coming again. They are here Thursday, Friday and Saturday of the fair. The auction is on [Sept. 10] at 12:30 p.m.,” Cronley said.

There will be a concert Saturday evening featuring Laura Alaina.

“That is Saturday night at 8 p.m. Tickets are still available, $10 for general admission, $15 for reserve seats and $20 for the track. They can be purchased by calling the fair office or online through hardincountyfair.org website, or they can stop in at the office,” Cronley said.

Grandstand events are always popular, and the Hardin County Fair doesn’t disappoint in this area.

“The Truck and Tractor Pull starts at 7 p.m. Saturday night. Tickets are $6 for general admission; $8 for reserve seats and pit passes are $10. The Demolition Derby is at 6 p.m. on Sunday night. Tickets are $6 for general admission; $8 for reserve seats and $10 for pit passes,” Conley said.

The area schools have entertainment in the grandstand as well.

“We have our choir show in the grandstand at 1 p.m. [Sept. 10]. Reserve seats are $5 and general admission is $4. This is the county choirs, the show choirs all perform. There are six of them performing. Our Band Show is on Tuesday night … at 7 p.m. following the crowning of king and queen. Tickets are $5 for reserve and $4 for general admission,” Cronley said.
