CELINA — A New Carlisle man was being held in the Mercer County jail in lieu of $100,000 bail as a suspect in a string of recent thefts throughout the region.
Fredrick Hale Jr., 49, was jailed after his arrest Aug. 2 by officers of the Celina Police Department on felony theft charges. Hale is a former Celina resident, according to information provided by Celina police officials.
Hale’s arrest came after a traffic stop on Havemann Road in Celina, during which he was found to be in possession of criminal tools used in thefts around the area as well as stolen goods, according to a statement from Celina police officials.
Celina police officers were investigating a theft from Walmart that took place July 24, as well as other thefts at the Menards, Dollar General and TSC stores in Celina.
After his arrest, Celina detectives brought Hale to the Celina Police Department where he and an unnamed witness were interviewed for a lengthy period of time, authorities said. During the interview, detectives gathered information regarding thefts throughout the region and passed that information on to the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office, the Minster Police Department and to law enforcement agencies in Miami County.
The information was used by the Mercer County Sheriff’s Office to obtain search warrants, which resulted in the recovery of “thousands of dollars of stolen property, including property from the recent TSC and Dollar General thefts,” the statement said.
The investigation was still pending and anyone with information was asked to contact the Celina Police Department at 419-586-2345.
