LIMA — A break in a waterline “blew up pavement” Monday morning in downtown Lima, but no businesses were believed to have lost their water service.

The break to an 8-inch line was discovered in the alley along the parking garage off Market Street around 7 a.m.

“I expect the waterline to be repaired [by 1 p.m. Monday], but it will be a while until they can get all the street repairs done,” said Larry Huber, utility field services manager for the city of Lima.

The main pavement that is in need of repairs is the alley beside the parking garage.

The Utilities Department did not shut the water completely off, so few, if any, businesses were without water.

“There’s a couple businesses that I believe had taps back there, but the water is not shut all the way off and so they would probably still receive some. Not all the businesses along that strip are off that waterline. There’s other mains in front of the buildings also,” Huber said.
