CELINA — A St. Marys man died Tuesday morning after his tractor-trailer collided with a vehicle driven by a St. Henry woman who failed to yield.
At 8:17 a.m. Tuesday, a 2008 Kia driven by 27-year-old Lisa Rinderle of St. Henry was northbound on Burkettsville-St. Henry Road near Celina. Rinderle stopped at the stop sign at state Route 219, but she failed to yield to the right-of-way. She proceeded into the intersection and collided with a westbound 2001 Freightliner driven by 57-year-old Charles Ward of St. Marys. Ward’s tractor overturned and slid down the roadway, where he was struck again by an eastbound 2018 Volvo driven by 37-year-old Terry Green II, of Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Rinderle and Ward were taken to Mercer Health in Coldwater, where Ward was pronounced dead as a result of the injuries he suffered during the crash. Rinderle was being treated at Mercer Health on Wednesday, and Green was treated, then released at the scene.
The Mercer County Sheriff’s Office was investigating the crash. Sheriff Jeff Grey said that, once the investigation is complete, the case will be sent to the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for possible charges.
Tuesday’s crash marked the third fatal accident in Mercer County this year.
