LIMA — The Wohlgamuths of Lima appeared on the “Today” show in New York on June 16.

The family was part of a group with Jeanne’s Dance Studio, located in Shawnee Township. The dance studio toured New York City. The group saw many sights including tours of Lincoln Center, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, NBC studios, and viewed a Broadway show. The dancers of the group took a class from Matt DeAngelis, who performed in that show.

A visit to the “Today” show prompted Andy Wohlgamuth to produce a sign that caught the attention of Matt Lauer.

“Andy was holding up a sign that said, ‘My wife said I’d get a new truck if I get on Today.’ Matt saw it and sent someone out to get them to bring them to the front of the audience. So when they went out to introduce Shania Twain, who was the music of the day, they spoke to them on TV. It was pretty exciting,” Jeanne Randall said.

Joyce and Andy Wohlgamuth, along with their daughters Madi and Emily, were all able to stand in the front row of the “Today” show.

“They got to be way up front. We were in the back. They talked to them on TV,” Randall said.

Every other year Jeanne’s Dance Studio has a performance learning opportunity.

“Instead of going to a national dance competition, which is expensive, we’ve done bowl games, two years ago we danced in the night parade at Disney World, and they’ve danced on cruise ships, various things over the years,” Randall said. “We did New York City in 2000, so it’s a whole new group of people. Everybody loved it. We had a great trip. It was a really good experience.”
