HARROD — A Harrod man died Sunday morning after crashing his car into a utility pole, the Lima post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol reported.

Erik D. Neeley, 21, was eastbound on Clum Road, east of the Lawrence Road intersection in Harrod, when his 1991 GMC pick-up truck traveled off the left side of the roadway and struck an American Electric Power pole. The truck overturned and Neeley was ejected from the vehicle, troopers reported. The truck came to a rest upright, facing west in a cornfield adjacent to the roadway.

Neeley was taken to Lima Memorial Health System, where he was pronounced dead.

A witness at the scene said the truck was driving at a high rate of speed just before the crash, according to troopers. Neeley was not wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. Alcohol was suspected as a contributing factor in the accident.

The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by the Allen County Sheriff’s Office, Harrod EMS and Blake’s Towing.
