LIMA — A vacant lot that sits in front of Meijer on Elida Road will soon become a Discount Tire retail store, a company official confirmed Tuesday.
When it is finished, the Discount Tire Co.’s 9,178-square-foot Lima location will sell wheels and tires, and will install these items on vehicles. It will be the first Discount Tire to open near Lima, as the closest locations are in Rossford and Dayton, which are about 70 miles from the city. The company also has stores in Toledo, Miamisburg, Columbus and Beavercreek.
The company is in the process of constructing the new store at 3264 Elida Road, which is located near the front parking lot of the Meijer grocery store. Discount Tire’s subsidiary, Halle Properties LLC, recently purchased the property for $950,000.
Few other details were made available, but workers have spent the last few weeks leveling the lot to prepare for construction of a building. As of Tuesday evening, the lot was a large patch of dirt with gravel sprinkled along the entrance. A sign that reads “outlots for sale” remains near the property.
Discount Tire was founded in 1960 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The company employs more than 17,000 people in 33 states, and has established over 940 stores across the country.
