LIMA — The Perry Township Fire Department responded to a fire at 6:20 a.m. Thursday that resulted in heavy damage to a home.
The fire department responded to a report of a fire at 1360 Amherst Road and arrived to find heavy smoke pouring from the home. Later, flames began to shoot out of the rear of the structure. Firefighters were on scene until 11 a.m. battling the blaze and cleaning up.
Perry Township FD Deputy Chief Jason Smedley said no one was at home at the time and there were no injuries reported. He said damage was heavy to the home but a cost estimate has not yet been completed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
The Uniopolis and Cridersville fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene.
