LIMA — A man charged this month in a 2001 killing waived a hearing Wednesday and a magistrate sent his case to a grand jury to review.
David W. Evans, 35, is charged with voluntary manslaughter in the July 2, 2001, shooting death of 69-year-old Cardell Beachum. The grand jury can review the case for additional or higher charges.
Beachum was shot to death as he left his business, Sports and Sorts, at 1290 St. Johns Ave. He was trying to lock the door when someone shot him in the upper body. He was found dead in front of the entrance to the business with the door key in hand.
