Memorial Day parade coming back

LIMA — The Memorial Day parade is returning to active duty. Community members from the Friends of Lima organization have decided to host a Memorial Day parade at 10 a.m. on Monday, May 29.

Community members have not experienced a parade on Memorial Day in several years. One group of Lima residents have decided to make that change.

“The Memorial Day parade has been gone for a couple of years now and a large portion of the community has been feeling that lack,” said Jewel Harris, Friends of Lima member. “It is now our mission to bring it back so that the people that served can feel honored and respected in the community in which they serve.”

Friends of Lima hope to bring not only attractions but memories that will last a lifetime.

“It will be a family-filled event as well,” added Harris. “There is going to be food trucks, hog roast and all different types of activities. We really hope the comunity comes out and support the community.”

The organization is newly developed in the City of Lima. Their mission is to connect community members to the world around them.

“We aid any activity, person, group or business that is here in Lima that is striving to enhance or beautify the community,” said Harris. “Whether it is bringing entrepreneurship programs, supporting efforts already out there, providing free meal calendars for the population in Lima that is seeking free meals.”

According to Harris, the Friends of Lima group consists of a group of entrepreneurs and businesss owners who hope to make Lima better.

“Our number mission is to restore the pride and the sense of community,” added Harris. “A lot of people look at Lima and think it is a horrible place to be. But there are a lot of great things here and we have made it our mission to shed light on those things and to bring some of those things back.”
