State awards $200K to maternity program for opioid users

LIMA — The Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services awarded a $200,000 grant to Coleman Health Services and Mercy Health-St. Rita’s Medical Center for a maternal care home serving opioid-dependent pregnant and postpartum women.

“We have seen moms come through the doors—pregnant and addicted—and we have seen them leave healthier, confident and able to care for their new baby,” Coleman President and CEO Hattie Tracy said in a statement Thursday. “It takes some time, but it is truly remarkable.”

The program has received state funding since 2019 in addition to local fundraising efforts.
