Lima Fire Department responds to Lakewood house fire

LIMA — A neighbor called in to report billowing smoke coming from 2272 Lakewood Ave. in Lima early Saturday afternoon. Smoke emanated from a window of the top floor or attic of this Cape Cod style home.

The homeowner, Denise Foltz, indicated that she was not at home when the incident started.

Foltz said she was at the Kewpee when she was notified by a relative and returned home.

Kris Biederman and another neighbor rescued and removed three puppies from the residence, a St. Bernard, a German Shepherd and a beagle.

Foltz, who previously volunteered with a local fire department, has a decorative, but non-functional red fire hydrant in front of her home.

The Lima Fire Department responded to the scene with multiple fire engines present. A yellow fire hydrant was tapped at the corner of Lakewood Ave. and Maple Drive.

AEP also responded to the scene.

Water spewed from that same upper level window as firefighters worked inside.
